To provide quality tuition to the students by:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>planning, preparing and delivering effective lessons to meet students\u2019 cognitive and affective needs;<\/li>\n<li>ensuring that the learning objectives specified in the Preparatory Program Syllabus are met in the best possible way to meet students\u2019 needs;<\/li>\n<li>providing formative assessment and feedback on a range of tasks through the Learning Portfolio and other assessments;<\/li>\n<li>contributing to the development of critical thinking skills of students;<\/li>\n<li>providing individual support and attention to students as required and through tutorials and individual meetings;<\/li>\n<li>contributing to students\u2019 personal development in English Language Preparatory Program through the promotion of a suitable learning environment;<\/li>\n<li>contributing to evaluation and planning of courses to better meet student needs;<\/li>\n<li>selecting, adapting and preparing materials for classes;<\/li>\n<li>using computers for effective teaching and learning.<\/li>\n<li>responding positively to student feedback gained through the Evaluation of Learning (EL) results and the University Course and Instructor Evaluation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong> 2. To effectively carry out non-teaching related duties by:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>liaising with colleagues in all matters related to teaching of their students;<\/li>\n<li>actively participating in, minuting and chairing Teaching Unit meetings and any other meetings as required;<\/li>\n<li>effectively invigilating and marking all exams organised as required;<\/li>\n<li>maintaining records in designated formats;<\/li>\n<li>substituting for absent colleagues as required;<\/li>\n<li>adhering to and enforcing institutional rules.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong> 3. To contribute to institutional and professional development by:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>participating in staff development and other training programmes as and when required;<\/li>\n<li>contributing to the climate of development in the Teaching Unit;<\/li>\n<li>contributing to the positive working atmosphere in the Teaching Unit and the school;<\/li>\n<li>participating in the establishment and maintenance of an \u2018open door\u2019 policy, which includes class visits and classroom observations;<\/li>\n<li>having classes videoed for professional development purposes;<\/li>\n<li>developing computer-related skills for teaching and learning;<\/li>\n<li>positively contributing to the appraisal process;<\/li>\n<li>actively participating in task groups;<\/li>\n<li>positively contributing to consultation on key Teaching Unit and institutional issues.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong> 4. To fulfil other job-related duties assigned by the Director. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> 5. To teach a full instructor course load of 680 hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Probation <\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In accordance with the Turkish Labor Law, there is a 60 &#8211; day probation period for instructors new to English Language Preparatory Program. An outline of the probationary criteria is given below to inform those instructors who would like to apply for a teaching position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Probationary Criteria <\/strong>Head of Teaching Unit (HTU) manages the probation process and makes the final recommendation to the Directorate referring to the data collected. The recommendation made falls into two categories:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>approval of successful completion of the probationary period;<\/li>\n<li>termination of contract.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Probationary requirements are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Satisfactory fulfilment of all duties detailed in the job description.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstration of essential teaching skills and techniques observed over four assessed lessons.<\/li>\n<li>A clear indication of a successful instructor-student relationship<\/li>\n<li>A clear indication of a successful working relationship with instructors in the Teaching Unit (TU), line manager, instructors in other TUs, Post of Responsibility holders, management team, administrative and support staff.<\/li>\n<li>Adherence to the Professional Code of Conduct outlined in the Staff Handbook.<\/li>\n<li>Maintenance of acceptable standards of behaviour within the academic community.<\/li>\n<li>Respect for the precepts of reasonable behaviour within the community at large; individual support of institutional values,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Induction<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the beginning of each academic year, an induction is given to all new colleagues to welcome them and to support them in settling into their new positions. \u00a0The program covers a typical working week and offers an excellent opportunity for the beginning of a constructive dialogue between new colleagues and the school. \u00a0The program aims and topics are summarized below.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Aims <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em> The programme aims to provide:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>a supportive, non-threatening environment for participants<\/li>\n<li>all participants with the necessary information to be an effective member of a Teaching Unit from the beginning of the new academic year.<\/li>\n<li>participants with an understanding of the specific teaching\/learning culture at English Language Preparatory Program<\/li>\n<li>an outline of school procedures and policies<\/li>\n<li>an opportunity to discuss school wide issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> Sessions Include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>Introduction to Bilkent University and English Language Preparatory Program<\/li>\n<li>Life in the Teaching Unit, a typical work week<\/li>\n<li>Introduction to the English Language Preparatory Program Curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Introduction to computerized learning programs in use<\/li>\n<li>Working with students, how students progress<\/li>\n<li>Assessment in English Language Preparatory Program<\/li>\n<li>Question and answer sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row 0=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text 0=&#8221;&#8221;] Would you like to start a teaching career in English Language Teaching (ELT)?
