Students who meet the requirements specified in the Principles of Documentation of English Proficiency through External Examinations and achieve the necessary score will be exempt from the English Language Preparatory Program and continue their studies in their department. Bilkent University accepts the results of IELTS (International English Language Testing) and TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exams. The minimum passing scores for these exams are as follows:
- an overall average of 6.5, with at least 5.5 from each module of the IELTS academic examination
- 87 points from TOEFL IBT (internet-based)
Students wishing to take an external exam for demonstrating English language proficiency must inform the English Language Preparatory Program in writing of their intention to sit the exam and submit relevant registration documents, at least 21 days prior to the exam date. Such students can only sit external exams at the centres and on days previously announced by Bilkent University.
